Eddie, just listen to the end, there will be no words, even 'wow's for it, I promise you :D

Well, as of now, the band has been renamed to Saor and here you can listen to the second album which is even uncomparable to the fist one :\

Panopticon-like drums and strangely recorded vocals killed everything beautiful in it.

From http://crypticrock.com/primordial-where ... um-review/ :

"A few years back, on 2005′s The Gathering Wilderness, Primordial penned a song called “The Coffin Ships.” Quite possibly the most heartbreaking song ever to be articulated by distorted guitars, it begged the question. Could they ever conjure such a mood again? The answer with “Wield Lightning to Split the Sun” is yes."

Big words these are... We'll see.

I should give another chance to Primordial.

I have a problem with that Shade Empire. Listening to one song is great, but the full album made me bored! Or maybe I just listened to it in a bad moment and should give it another try...

-----

Today a coincidence happened: I was listening to Primordial's A Journey's End in the evening, and meanwhile I was thinking the same thing that I read in an article after I returned home: that the first four Primordial albums were somehow the road that led to The Gathering Wilderness, where they finally found themselves and the style they would follow since then. More or less, right?

Also, I think their 3rd album is way better than both the 2nd and the 4th.

Hmmm, I understand very well what you mean, their musical progression kinda stopped after TGW. Due to the somewhat special production on TGW, and more standard one of To The Nameless Dead, the similarities are not that obvious, but from TTND to Redemption At The Puritan's Hand there is very little difference, the latter sounds like a bit weaker TTND part 2. Have not heard Where Greater Men Have Fallen yet, I will certainly buy it, and certainly it will have a certain amount of quality, but I fear it might be a "Part 3"...

About what past album is their best, I would go for TGW, while Spirit The Earth Aflame was the first I bought so I guess it has a special position because of that. But I would not say it is any better than either A Journey's End or Storm Before Calm, I'd say all 3 are more or less equally good. Now only Imrama is left to mention. A charming but a bit uneven debut album. :)

So here is my roll on the dice for each album:

Imrama 4/6
A Journey's End 5/6
Spirit The Earth Aflame 5/6
Storm Before Calm 5/6
The Gathering Wilderness 6/6
To The Nameless Dead 5/6
Redemption At The Puritan's Hand 4/6

Really interesting analysis you've just made there. For me, Redemption is more similar to Wilderness, because the songs are more similar to each other, and Greater Men is more similar to Nameless, because I find more variety. I could call Greater Men a Nameless 2 (and the title track is totally an "Empire Falls Again"), but Redemption? That's surprising. Different perceptions, I guess!

I've just discovered this new Italian band, Hornwood Fell, totally by chance while searching for something completely different. Pretty aggressive black metal, not bad at all at the first, not-too-careful listen. You may want to check them out:

Not too bad that one. Got a couple of vinyls from Blood music a while ago (Kauan & Ne Obliviscaris), they for some reason also sent me a CD with a band called Ifing, I have no knowledge on them, but the album was highly enjoyable. Some Moonsorrow inspirations can be heard as well. :)
