Even though I'm no big cinema lover, from time to time I like watching films about ancient peoples such as Vikings, Slavs, Baltic tribes and so on. The last film of this kind I watched was the third part of the Viking Trilogy made by the Icelandic director Hrafn Gunnlaugsson. The three parts have independent plots. They aren't really historical, as they don't tell special events, wars or anything like that; they basically depict the life during the Viking era.

Hrafninn flýgur (When the Raven Flies) (1984)
It's been compared to Clint Eastwood's A fistful of dollars, because it also deals with quarrels between neighbours, although the main character behaves in a different way, which gives it a very interesting, different approach. This one is maybe the most entertaining one.

Í skugga hrafnsins (In the Shadow of the Raven) (1987)
I don't remember too much about this one. If I'm not mistaken, it has to do with the arrival of Christianity.

Hvíti víkingurinn (The White Viking) (1991)
+ the director's cut: Embla (2007)

Christianism is the official religion in Norway, and people are being converted by force. A couple marry following the old tradition, but the king, who wants to eradicate everything pagan, captures them, sends the woman to a convent and the man to Iceland for missionary work.
The original version is longer; the director decided that the film should be more focused on the female character, so he removed many scenes for his later cut.

They can be watched legally for 3 € each at Icelandic Cinema Online. If you're the pirate kind, they're not hard to find, I think even on Youtube.
